Five Amazing Winter Proposal Ideas

Ah yes, winter :)  A wondrous time filled with peppermint hot chocolate, Hallmark Christmas movies, and yes, WEDDING PROPOSALS AND ENGAGEMENTS!!!  As a wedding photographer, nothing gets me more excited than getting to hear alllll about the proposal ideas that people have come up with to surprise and ask their loved one to marry them :)

Now, for those of you that are planning a proposal and have NO idea what to do, here are a couple ideas/thoughts to help you get started!

  • Sleigh Ride and Hot Cocoa - there is probably nothing more romantic than snuggling up with your significant other and riding privately on a sleigh ride.  Let your driver know your plans beforehand, and see if you can pull off at some point for the big moment!!! Then you both get to celebrate and joyfully snuggle back for the rest of the ride :)

  • Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony - lots of cities around the US hold Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremonies in December - these times are often so beautiful magical, so grab some of that magic and make a memorable proposal out of it!

  • Romantic Dinner for Two - instead of going out for a fancy Christmas dinner, plan a sweet private homemade dinner for the two of you.  You can impress your significant other with your cooking skills, bake some Christmas cookies together, and then finish the night asking them to marry you!

  • Ornament Surprise - for a couple that loves having fun together, organize a “Christmas Ornament Scavenger hunt for the two of you!  Make a list of ornaments that you have to race to find in your tree, and finish off with a “special box” that you’ve hung from the tree with the engagement ring inside (race to see who can find it first)!  This will definitely be a fun surprise and leave you both smiling for days

  • Christmas Photo Session - one of my FAVORITE proposal ideas that never gets old is proposing during a photo session.  Usually, it’s INCREDIBLY surprising and you get every moment captured beautifully by a professional photographer!  Try coordinating with a photographer to see if you can do a session on a snowy day, tell them about your plan, and they’ll help coordinate the big moment with you!!!

Whatever you do, make sure it reflects you and your partner’s personality and relationship.  And have someone hiding to take photos to save the memories forever!!!! Good luck and happy proposing :)
