How to Get Amazing Wedding Getting Ready Photos

Hey everyone!  Last week I covered some tips to help you brides get your details ready for the BEST detail photos ever!!!  Today, I’m going to be covering the next part of your wedding day - tips for amazing getting ready photos.

Getting ready photos can definitely be a tricky part of the day.  Most times, you are usually behind schedule, everything is literally EVERYWHERE, and you aren’t sure exactly what to do!  Throw in a photographer trying to get photos of you as you get your dress on, and things can get overwhelming fast. Luckily, there are a few things you can do to relieve stress AND get some incredible getting ready photos:

Pick a location that is big, open, and bright.  Windows are SOOOO key with getting ready photos!  Some photographers recommend rooms that are a light color, but as long as you pick somewhere with lots of (preferably natural) light, your photos are going to come out spectacular.  And don’t be afraid to think outside the box - I booked an airBnB for our getting ready space since the venue’s room was too dark for photos - this can add some charm to your photos as well!

Think about what you and everyone will be wearing.  Especially if you are taking getting ready photos BEFORE getting dressed, try coordinating or dressing a little nicer than your old PJs - you can even make some time to take some group photos if you and your bridesmaids are matching!

Keep the clutter away.  It’s easy to fill a space with clutter on a wedding day, but try to leave an area that is completely clean - that way, you don’t have any distracting water bottles or suitcases in the background while you are getting your dress on.

Have everyone else get dressed FIRST.  That way, when you are getting helped with your dress, everyone is photo ready and not still in their PJs. Plus, then you don’t have to worry about anyone running behind when you are ready for portrait time!

Get your dress ON, then take photos.  I don’t think anyone actually wants photos of the process of getting your dress on - so take some time with your mom/sister/friends to get your dress on, then invite the photographer to take photos of you.  That way, you aren’t claustrophobic with everyone in the room at once while you try getting dressed.

BONUS TIP:  Plan a bridesmaid reveal!  This is always super precious to photograph, as you reveal your dress to your bridesmaids for the first time!  Make sure to talk to your photographer about getting this set up/making some time for it in the timeline.

I hope these tips help you out as you begin planning where you will get ready for your wedding!  I always recommend talking to your photographer about this, as they can give you special tips on locations, lighting, timing, and anything else you may need.  Now go and find the perfect spot for getting ready (and don’t sweat it too much)!
