How to Prepare Your Fiance For Your Engagement Session

Have a fiance that is really NOT about taking photos and showing PDA in front of other people?

I totally get it.  Getting your photo taken by a stranger can be intimidating - and having to naturally show affection to your fiance at the same time seems impossible.

One of the best things that YOU can do to prepare for your engagement session, however, is actually help your fiance prepare for the session with you!  How can you do that?

Choose outfits together.  I know this one may be self-explanatory, but sit down and choose outfits for your session TOGETHER.  Ladies, I know how easy it can be to choose your dream outfits, then order your fiance some matching clothes.  But you need to involve him in the process - I am SURE that he has some opinions, and the more you involve him in the planning, the more he will feel involved in the entire process.

Talk to him about how the session will go.  I definitely don’t want to stereotype, but your fiance probably has not been scouring Instagram and Pinterest for engagement portrait inspiration.  Honestly, he probably has NO idea what to expect. Explain to him who your photographer is (so he isn’t walking up to a complete stranger asking him to show a bunch of PDA).  Tell him that the photographer will guide you both through poses, and that YOU don’t expect him to be perfect (cause who is a 100% natural in their first engagement session??).  And share with him the BEST detail to help you session FEEL and LOOK natural - keep moving. Tell him that he can talk with you, kiss you, play with your hair - again, he doesn’t have to be perfect!

Go on a date BEFORE your session.  Grab some coffee or a quick bite to eat before your session!  You may have to reapply your makeup a bit, but having some normal time together where you can connect and hangout will bring you closer.  That way, when you show up for your session, you are already in conversation and interaction with each other, which makes nerves go away as you are less focused on the session itself and more on each other.

Doing these 3 things are SO SIMPLE, and yet they can make a huge difference on how prepared your fiance feels walking into your engagement session.  Honestly, confidence and calmness are KEY in making a session run smoothly (which I work to help you guys discover throughout your session), and starting out with these 3 tips are a great way to get started!
