Why You Should Do An Engagement Session with Your Wedding Photographer
So you are looking through different wedding photographers’ packages that you’ve contacted recently, and you are starting to notice a pattern… they all offer engagement sessions with their wedding packages.
Now, hear me out. Even if you don’t really “need” engagement photos, or you’ve already done a session with another photographer or friend, you should DEFINITELY do a session with your wedding photographer.
Why?? Maybe you have a busy schedule or really don’t love getting your photo taken. Whatever the case, I 100% guarantee that doing an engagement session with your wedding photographer will make your wedding day go by SO MUCH smoother. How?
You’ll build a relationship with your wedding photographer. Let’s be real, posing intimately in front of a stranger can be pretty intimidating. An engagement session is a great opportunity to meet your photographer and break the awkward ice that may exist between people that simply just don’t know each other. The next time you hop in front of the camera, you won’t feel half as strange.
You’ll get some practice with posing/getting your photo taken. Most of us are not born natural models (myself included), so getting your engagement photos taken (even multiple times) helps you begin to feel more natural with posing and taking directions for a great photo. That way, once your wedding day comes around, you’ll be mentally prepared for photos and not be nearly as nervous/awkward-feeling.
Your photographer will get a chance to understand how to truly capture your relationship. A wedding day is a CRAZY time to try to get to know someone - it’s super busy, and you are pretty much running from place to place and from person to person. Because of this, an engagement session is a fantastic way for your photographer to get to know you both better and understand how you interact in front of a camera. It’s a lot of less pressure for all parties involved, and again, that relationship-building and TRUST translates so beautifully in photos.
Hopefully, I’ve swayed you towards doing a session with your photographer! If you are concerned about money, ask about doing a mini session with them :) Anyway you can build that relationship more will result in better, more “you” photos on your wedding day!
