3 Things Your Wedding Photographer Can Help You With For Your Wedding

Did you know that your photographer can actually be trusted with more than just taking your wedding photos???

Although it’s easy to see your photographer as another wedding vendor, we actually play a pretty critical role and can offer a lot of insight that can TRANSFORM your wedding day into something of your dreams.  Whether you are working with me or another photographer, there are three things that you should totally trust your photographer with:

  1. Wedding Day Timeline

  2. Photo Location

  3. Posing/Directing

TIMELINE

A lot of times, a timeline for a wedding can feel like throwing a dart into the dark and praying that everything works.  That’s when your wedding photographer can step in and clear the air! Wedding photographers have been to countless weddings and have experienced what the perfect timings are for every event - the average ceremony, best reception length, and of course, how much time you really need for portraits.  Meeting up with your wedding photographer and getting their help in forming a timeline is SO IDEAL. We provide timelines for ALL of our couples and have found that this relieves so much stress for those planning weddings. See a list below of all of the different things you can consider in your timeline when talking with your photographer:

Getting Ready

First Look(s)

Couple Portraits

Wedding Party Portraits

Immediate Family Portraits

Ceremony

Extended Family Portraits

Reception

Sunset Portraits

Ceremony/Reception Exit

LOCATION

Location is often something that can make or break a photo.  Things like area traffic, lighting, and random objects are often after thoughts, so allowing your photographer to pick locations for portraits is SO IMPORTANT!  Something that we do is ask our couples about a type of location they would prefer (nature/adventurous, garden/enchanting, city/hipster, etc.) and take off from there.!  That way, we can help accommodate the look you are wanting with a location that can truly deliver some beautiful imagery. This goes for wedding days as well. Sometimes, we may have you standing in a seemingly strange place - but trust us!!!! We have the perspective of looking AT you - so we will move you if there’s something off.

POSING/DIRECTING

I can’t even tell you the number of times I have heard “we are really awkward and don’t know what to do.”  First of all, DON’T WORRY!!!! Your photographer is an expert at one thing - creating a good photo! They know what poses work, what don’t, and how to help you loosen up when you are feeling nervous.  They will direct you and help to ensure that whatever you are doing shows up GREAT in the photo! This is meant to be a FUN EXPERIENCE - instead of panicking over how well you will do, just focus on enjoying some quality time with the person that you love - including lots of kissing! ;)

With this knowledge, I hope I can ease some of the wedding planning burden off of you and onto someone (your photographer) who is equipped to help you handle these items on your list.  Here’s to happy wedding planning!
