3 Ways to Fight the Laziness and Really Stay Motivated
I'm going to be quite honest.
I would much rather be curled up right now, watching the Grammys with a tub of ice cream and without a care in the world right now than sit down and write a blog post.
Ironically, the reasoning behind why I'm actually writing and my topic today go hand-in-hand.
You see, when you think about it, those people on the Grammys had a dream.
But they didn't just think of the dream and then waited for someone to hand deliver it to them.
They worked. They wrote. They knocked on doors, created thousands of songs, got rejected by hundreds. But they continued to stay motivated, and now - they get paid to do something that they love, and get the opportunity to share it with the world.
So, although my goal is not to hit Beyoncé status, I still have a dream to build this photography dream into a real-life business. But with a full-time job AND planning a wedding, sometimes the motivation just ISN'T THERE. When I hit these moments, it helps to have an actual plan of things that motivate myself - so I decided to share that plan with you all today!
1. Tackle one piece at a time.
I get it. You want results, and you want them now. But trust me, if you try to do everything in a single 1-hour sitting, you are going to end up stressed out, sitting on your bed scrolling through Facebook. Instead of trying to get it all done at once, take one task, like educating yourself on a certain skill set, and focus in completely on that. Once you have completed that, you will not only be less stressed BUT will also feel a sense of accomplishment in actually getting something done. And then you can reward yourself with chocolate.
2. Turn. Off. The. Social. Media.
Okay, I'm the first to admit that I probably check my Instagram like 5 times when writing a blog post. THIS IS THE WORST THING YOU CAN DO EVER. It distracts from your task at hand, losing your train of thought and providing less of an overall takeaway from what you are doing. Turn off your notifications, flip your phone around, or delete the apps for a short amount of time. Trust me, you are NOT going to miss out on anything detrimental, and you'll thank yourself later when you have that extra hour of free time after finishing your work.
3. Get an accountability partner.
This step is fairly new to me, but it's the one I am most excited about and would recommend as being one of the best pieces of advice I have ever received. Getting someone to report your goals to, your progress, your struggles, etc. is not only motivating but also relieving to your soul. This partner shares in your burdens and excitements and can be someone to turn to with new ideas, problems, questions, or news. Also, once you have told someone your goals, you are more likely to actually deliver on them - a lot of times because you'd rather not disappoint that person. Choose your accountability partner wisely - someone you respect, and someone who can equally challenge and encourage you.
Now that you've read this, it's time to actually put it to practice! Try one of these steps this week, and let me know how you do :). What are some other ways that you stay motivated? Feel free to comment below!
