All my people out there planning your Colorado engagement session - are you stressed out about how to choose the PERFECT location in such an amazing state?!

I totally get it. Basically, Colorado has an endless amount of amazing locations to choose from - but there are a TON of factors that go into a location (crowds, accessibility, lighting, weather, how it photographs, etc. Picking a location can be SO difficult for your engagement session, especially when you aren’t exactly sure how a spot would look.

For each of my couples, I help them narrow down locations that would work best for their session so we can get the look that best reflects what they want!  Here are some of the questions I use to narrow down some of the best spots in Colorado:

Narrow Down the Overall Vibe Of Your Session

Do you want mountains or more of an urban, city feel?  Although some people might ASSUME mountains, having a city session can be so BEAUTIFUL and really reflect your personalities better - so don’t be afraid to go with it!  I also do sessions that are half in the city AND half in the mountains - so the best of both worlds!!!

Think About the Backdrop Of Your Photos

What kind of views/background do you want?  Are you wanting a grand overlook and the skies in the background of your photos? Or do you want to see the mountains rising up behind you?  Although you may not think about it, the backdrop of your photo makes a BIG difference in the overall look!

Consider the Time of Year and Day of the Week

Consider the time of year and day of the week you’ve picked - make sure that the location fits your dream look with the season that you are in - you might have to travel a bit to get those dreamy, Colorado winter photos! Also, remember that weekends are usually busier at more popular spots, so be open to lesser known (but still AMAZING) locations that you’ll have more freedom in!

Overall, if you pick a photographer you love, the location doesn’t matter TOO much - but a great location can make for the dreamiest photos ever! If you are totally lost, ask your photographer to send some recommendations and examples of photos at those locations - that way you can visualize yourself there!
